Thanks a lot! I love that engine you painted. Really great stuff. I am just curious on the engine would that paint handle the heat or was that just an art piece? I am building my Bonneville and I am almost to painting stage and you inspired me to maybe do something crazy like that to the engine.

That engine is a payR plastic mock up engine. I used Testors model paint on it and I wouldn’t expect it to stand up to the heat on the cast iron parts but then I haven’t tried yet either. It would be a worthy experiment. I’ve used it on valve covers and air cleaners with no issues because valve covers and air cleaners don’t get that hot. Most paints can handle up to a few hundred degrees and car engines only run at less than 200. There are a lot of engine paints available and if you go to your local paint supply store they should be able to tell you what your options are since they can mix engine paint for you. Keep in mind that you can only really see the top of the engine (valve covers, intake, air cleaner) so that’s where you should concentrate your efforts. There just isn’t much point in spending a ton of time on side of the block. Good luck! Feel free to call if there is anything else you want.(770) 924 5722
